We are honored to announce that the laptops we provided to the Parish School of San Andres Sajcabaja at Santa Cruz del Quiche have arrived and are already helping transform the education of many students. We annually partner with the United Association for Life’s education program for disabled students, and we most recently were a 2021 Sponsor with Guatemala’s The Parish School. We aimed to provide underprivileged students with the opportunity to experience the advantages of learning hands-on with technological assets, and we are excited to share the success of our mission.

Oftentimes, we take the simple things in our lives for granted. We have been accustomed to believing that all students will receive a quality education, gain full literacy, and even utilize smartphones, laptops, and tablets daily. However, Guatemala possesses the lowest literacy rate in Central America, with only 74.5% of the population age 15 and over being literate. (source: UNESCO

In the United States, our students have experienced the privileges of incorporating technical devices in the classroom as early as kindergartners, while high school and even college students in Guatemala never received the opportunity to do so. Our article on transforming the educational system highlights the ways that integrating technology into the classroom allows students to further collaborate, communicate, create and critically think, and we were determined to assist the students in Guatemala in reaching their highest academic potential.

Sister Rosa María from Guatemala’s The Parish School shared with us that the laptops we provided have already been put to good use. Students have become more engaged with their classwork, and have begun finding their personal learning styles. Rather than relying on a few textbooks to get across the entire curriculum, students at the Parish School have been able to conduct in-depth research and obtain a broader range of perspectives, while having access to wider media formats including educational videos, podcasts, and interactive assignments.

The students have reported enjoying their new devices and exploring all of the academic features that they possess. Direct access to cultural and educational resources is now at the students’ fingertips, and we are confident that their education will continue to flourish.

Since 2017, 4THBIN has equipped San Andres and the Association for Life with more than 20 laptops. Our 2021 sponsorship has been the most impactful yet, and we are excited to continue transforming the lives of students across the globe with the expansion of this program.

We are extremely grateful to see the students and educators at the Parish School of San Andres Sajcabaja making the most of their time with technology in the classroom. If you would like to join us in making a big impact through our 4THBIN 4GOOD program, or simply learn more about the cause, please contact us.
