The Knicks Started a New Era. What Technology Is Holding Yours Back?

Because not every device deserves a lifetime contract.

For the first time in decades, the New York Knicks are NBA champions.

After a hard-fought 94-90 victory over the Spurs to close out the Finals, the Knicks brought the Larry O’Brien Trophy back where many New Yorkers believe it belongs: New York City.

From packed watch parties and crowded sports bars to celebrations spilling out onto city streets, the energy across the five boroughs was impossible to miss. Longtime fans who had waited years for this moment finally got to see their team finish the job.

And while championship celebrations are all about the present, they also have a way of making people think about how much has changed along the journey.

Go Knicks!

The last time the Knicks were champions, most businesses weren’t carrying around smartphones. Cloud computing didn’t exist. Streaming wasn’t part of everyday life. Technology looked completely different, and so did the way organizations managed their information, equipment, and data.

Go Knicks!

Over the years, countless devices have come and gone. Computers became smaller, faster, and more powerful. Storage evolved from physical media to cloud platforms. Entire generations of electronics that once seemed cutting-edge have been retired.

Yet many organizations still have a surprising amount of yesterday’s technology sitting on the sidelines.

Old laptops stored in closets. Hard drives tucked away in cabinets. Retired servers sitting in data centers. Networking equipment, monitors, cables, and electronics that have survived office moves, technology refreshes, and years of waiting to deal with it later.

Go Knicks!

The reality is that every piece of technology eventually reaches the end of its season. The question isn’t if it will happen. The question is what happens next.

Some devices still contain sensitive information that requires secure destruction. Others contain valuable materials that can be recovered and responsibly recycled. Either way, leaving retired technology sitting on the bench indefinitely isn’t a winning strategy.

That’s why organizations across New York and beyond turn to 4THBIN.

As the first company in New York City to earn e-Stewards® certification, 4THBIN adheres to some of the most stringent environmental and socially responsible practices in the industry. From secure data destruction and hard drive shredding to electronics recycling, IT asset disposition, and technology decommissioning projects, we help organizations confidently manage technology at the end of its lifecycle.

Like any championship team, we’re proud of the numbers.

To date, we’ve helped our clients responsibly recycle more than 10 million pounds of electronic waste. Those efforts have helped reduce more than 14.5 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions while preventing over 298,000 pounds of toxic metals and lead from entering landfills.

Go Knicks!

In basketball, those would be franchise-record numbers.

For us, they’re a reflection of what can happen when organizations commit to doing the right thing with their retired technology.

Because electronics recycling isn’t just about clearing space. It’s about protecting data. Supporting sustainability goals. Recovering valuable materials. Reducing environmental impact. And making sure technology doesn’t become tomorrow’s waste problem.

Go Knicks!

The Knicks didn’t become champions by holding onto the past. They built toward the future, made smart decisions, and embraced a new era when the opportunity arrived.

Organizations face a similar challenge every day.

Whether you’re preparing for a technology refresh, cleaning out years of accumulated equipment, decommissioning infrastructure, or simply wondering what’s sitting in that storage room down the hall, now is a great time to take inventory of what’s no longer helping your organization move forward.

New York has its champions. You can be one too.

Champion sustainability through responsible electronics recycling. Champion security through certified data destruction. Champion progress by ensuring retired technology is handled the right way.

Go Knicks!

At 4THBIN, we’ve spent years helping organizations do exactly that.
