4THBIN is honored to announce that we have provided 601Artspace with e-waste for the exhibition of Ars Memoriae.

The exhibit, titled Ars Memoriae, brings together ten artists from four continents who take inspiration from technology while simultaneously questioning the mainstream history of digital technological progress, offering alternative visions and new connections and speculating on the future implications of living in a technologically augmented reality. Ars Memoriae features end-of-life electronics to comment on the growing issue of e-waste. As human civilization continues to be deeply impacted by technology, including data, digital traceability, and machines, Ars Memoriae brings together a diverse selection of artworks to analyze the different layers of subsequent technological inventions.

Created by Lo-Def Film Factory (Francois Knoetze and Amy Louise Wilson), The Subterranean Imprint Archive aims to challenge the limited mainstream narrative of digital technologies and Africa’s portrayal of supplying raw materials for the technological revolution happening elsewhere.

Through 4THBIN 4GOOD, we had the privilege to provide the talented artists behind The Subterranean Imprint Archive with e-waste to bring their visions to life! 4THBIN supplied cables, circuit boards, computers, phones, and other obsolete electronic assets to help the artists assemble their projects. The equipment making up the pieces would have otherwise ended up in landfills or incinerators if not for 4THBIN’s efforts to recycle them properly first.

4THBIN 4GOOD was established with the goal of not only taking action against e-waste, but also spreading the word and shedding light on the immense dangers e-waste poses to our planet. We are honored to be able to support The Subterranean Imprint Archive and help spread its message regarding the lifecycles of consumer objects and how they are reactivated upon turning into waste. At 4THBIN, we believe that artwork is capable of altering narratives and inspiring social action by encouraging important thoughts and discussions through the message it portrays. The power of art is undeniable, as it educates, entertains, and inspires viewers.

The Subterranean Imprint Archive emphasizes that obsolete electronics do not have to end up as something harmful - if properly handled, they can be turned into something that has the capability of making a big impact. 4THBIN 4GOOD is all about making a big impact and educating communities along the way. We are extremely proud of our sponsorship with 601Artspace for the exhibition of Ars Memoriae and confident that it will inspire viewers to challenge mainstream ideology and take action against e-waste.
