Happy Halloween! As we get ready to celebrate the year’s most frightening festivities, we are reminded that the scariest part of Halloween isn’t the ghosts or ghouls, but the garbage that is left behind to haunt the environment.

Each year, there are terrifying amounts of trash generated on October 31st. Like any holiday, Halloween is bound to bring on excess waste that has ghoulish impacts to our Earth. In addition to the terrifying 50 million metric tons of e-waste that are produced yearly, the equivalent of 83 million bottles are thrown away on Halloween, which will end up in a landfill where plastics already account for nearly 20% of all municipal solid waste. At 4THBIN, we do our part in unmasking our Halloween recyclables to enjoy a spooky and sustainable holiday. It is still possible to enjoy all of the fun, frightening festivities of Halloween while keeping the environment in mind.

4THBIN - Halloween- waste

We encourage you to follow these Halloween Tricks to Treat the Environment:

4THBIN-Halloween-1

Don’t trash e-waste
Halloween electronics, such as animatronic props and other battery-operated decorations, should not be thrown away at home. Any Halloween decoration with a cord or battery must be disposed of securely and sustainably. Halloween electronics must be handled by a certified e-recycling solution provider, like 4THBIN.

Use eco-friendly bags for treats
Whether it be the festive bags you are using to collect or give out treats with, there are eco-friendly alternatives. Instead of using plastic bags specific to Halloween, consider using recyclable or multi-use bags, such as reusable shopping bags! This is also an excellent opportunity to get creative and design your own tote bag or even an old pillow case that can be used throughout the year - not just on Halloween!

Use what you have
Get creative and make your own Halloween costume from materials you already have! There are plenty of DIY costume tutorials on the internet to gather some inspiration! You can even upcycle costumes from previous years and add appropriate accessories to create a brand-new costume!

4THBIN-Big-Impact

Even though Halloween is only one day out of the year, the terrifying trash it leaves behind haunts our environment for years to come. There are plenty of ways to enjoy a more eco-friendly, sustainable holiday without spooking our planet! 4THBIN encourages you to join us this Halloween in taking part in all of the fun Halloween has to offer, while still doing things the right way - responsibly and sustainably.

4THBIN is honored to announce that we have provided 601Artspace with e-waste for the exhibition of Ars Memoriae. 4THBIN supplied cables, circuit boards, computers, phones, and other obsolete electronic assets to help the artists assemble their projects. The equipment making up the pieces would have otherwise ended up in landfills or incinerators if not for 4THBIN’s efforts to recycle them properly first.
